Tips for starting your search

Example topic:

"How does shift work impact on an individual's performance at work"

-   Identify the key concepts
-   Identify any synonyms or related keywords
         e.g. work / worker / job / occupation

Combine these keywords using the connectors:   > OR (combines similar concepts)   > AND (combines different concepts)

  shift work OR night shift                 
        AND     perform*
        AND impact OR effect
 
Use truncation * to find alternative word endings e.g. perform* finds performs, perfoming, performance

  • Find an exact title by selecting the Title option and typing the title in the search box e.g. Safety at work

 

Some database starters

Databases are search tool that find articles, papers, book chapters, reports, case studies and other material. 
They could be either full text or reference and abstract.  Search the A-Z Database list to find relevant databases for your subject. 

Books

Books can be useful for getting an overview of a topic.  Search the Library catalogue and narrow results by Format: Book/eBook to them.
