The assignment requires you to write three short reflective pieces. Each piece will reflect on a specific content within the course. Each entry requires you to bring together:

  1. Information from relevant readings
  2. Concepts from the relevant part of the course
  3. Personal experience

Turn these over in your mind and reflect on the topic, and write in the first person about your considered view. The three entries in total should not exceed 2500 words. You may choose to allocate approximately equal words to each of the three pieces.

Reflective writing records the writer's thoughts about individual learning and experience. Whenever you use ideas from a source, reference them using the UniSA Harvard style.

First reflective entry

The first reflective entry requires you to reflect on:

'Work is a curse to some and a blessing to others and a little bit of both to most of us’ (Svendson, 2016, p 10).

  • INFORMATION: Suggested anchor reading is the Textbook Introduction.
  • WAY OF MAKING SENSE: Useful conceptual background is provided in the first segment of the Unit, work and meaning of work, Introduction, chapter 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the textbook.
  • PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: This may be experience you have had, or experience of someone you know.


The first entry is due on Sunday 9 July 2017, by 11 pm Adelaide time.

Reflective Journal 2 requires you to write 2 reflective entries on the topics given below. It is expected that you incorporate the feedback provided by your tutor for Reflective Journal 1.


Second reflective entry

The second reflective entry requires you to reflect on the second half of the Career Workbook (pp.10-22) "Developing a Work Target" (Part 1 & 2). Do you think your ideal targets will align well with the most important values you identified in the most important values section of the Career Workbook? (pp.1-9)

  • INFORMATION: Suggested reading: eReading 01 - 'Challenges of cultural relativism' from Rachels, J (1993). Elements of moral philosophy. New York: McGraw Hill. See suggested other relevant readings below.
  • WAY OF MAKING SENSE: Useful conceptual background might come from the segment of the Unit which discusses being professional.
  • PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: This may be an example of a time when your personal values were challenged, or any other relevant experience.


Third reflective entry

The third reflective entry requires you to reflect on what you have realised from Mackey: Conscious Capitalism and Ignatius: Captain Planet about integrating environment considerations into how we should direct our business and own life strategies. Consider other ideas you have read about or experienced that could be used to improve the efforts of all organisations to protect the environment.

  • INFORMATION: Useful conceptual background might come from the segment of the Unit which discusses environmental sustainability or ethics, or from the part on the relationship between business and society. See suggested eReadings below.
  • WAY OF MAKING SENSE: Useful conceptual background might come from the segment of the Unit relating to sustainability and in particular environmental sustainability and ethics.
  • PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: This may be experience you have had, learned in this Unit, or read about that has made you reflect on what should or should not happen in an organisation in relation to environmentally sustainable practices.



Reflective Journal 2 is due on Sunday 20 August 2017 by 11 pm Adelaide time.
