Beyond Google for your research: Access full text

Accessing full text via UniSA

1. If you are accessing a resource via the Library Catalogue, the catalogue record will indicate if it is available online:

2. Within the catalogue record, scroll down to where it says View Online. Click on the blue link to go to the resource provider.

3. If there are multiple links, you can click on any of them. If one does not take you to the item you are looking for, you can try another. Beneath each link you can view the availability period of that journal via that particular platform. Not all platforms provide the most recent issues, so you need to keep an eye on this if you're trying to access current year journal issues.

4. The link will then take you to an online platform outside of UniSA. Each of these look different, so you may need to look in different spots to find where to read or download the full text.

5. If none of the links work, you can look at the Additional Services in the catalogue record and select the link to Search for this item with open access.

This link will take you to a open access (freely available and legal) copy if one is available. Many of these are hosted by university or government research repositories, and the free version available may be the author's accepted manuscript rather than the publisher's PDF.

Using 'Find It' in databases

Find It is a service that helps locate the full text of an article and finds it within existing UniSA Library subscriptions.

Databases like Scopus are bibliographic only (no full text), and will have the Find it button available:

Use the Find It button to locate the full text from within UniSA Library's collection.

Alternatively, the View at publisher link will take you directly to the publisher's webpage for that article. If you are on campus and logged in, this may take you to the full text.

Getting access outside of UniSA Library

If you are unable to locate the full text of an electronic or physical resource via UniSA Library, there are still some other options available to you.

UniSA Staff and Research Degree students are eligible to place an InterLibrary Loan.

To place a request, complete the

Resource Sharing Request form

with as many details as possible about the specific item you're looking for.

UniSA library staff will then try to source a copy for you. Depending on what it is, you may be sent an email with a digital copy attached, or an email informing you that a physical copy is available for you to borrow from a UniSA campus library.

Borrowing in person from other libraries

All UniSA staff and students are eligible to borrow books and other physical items from:

Just visit the library in person and take your UniSA ID with you to the Library service desk.
You can also borrow in person from other Australian universities. Items need to be returned to the library they were borrowed from.
