You need to think about what keywords you will use in your search. Have a look below at some of the topics covered in your course to get ideas.


TIP: 
You can try adding in your company name as a keyword, however, you may not be able to find information specific to that organisation. Instead, you can apply the findings of general research to your case study.

Library Catalogue 

The Catalogue is a useful starting point in locating academic references. It searches across the Library’s collection of books, journal articles and other information.

TIP: Use quotation marks around any search terms with two or more words. This will search for the words in that exact order.

You can use the Tweak my results menu on the left to limit your results by:

  • Peer reviewed journals or Books
  • Publication date

Business Source Complete

Business Source Complete provides information covering all areas of business, including detailed company profiles

To search, add each concept to a different line. Note that each line is connected with AND (left).

TIP: Use OR to connect similar keywords. This will find resources with either of those words.

You can limit your search by Publication Date range and Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals by using the left menu:

Research Starters

Research Starters are study and research guides designed specifically for university students. They consist of comprehensive, yet concise topic summary articles written by experts.

To search, add your keywords to the first field.

These articles are designed to give a comprehensive overview so it is best to search for one topic at a time.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar is a good tool to use to extend your search and find resources that are not listed in the Library Catalogue.

TIP: Access Google Scholar through the Library homepage to maximise your access to full-text resources.

The Advanced Scholar Search options allows you to build a search. To access the advanced search option select the menu of the top left corner of the Google Scholar interface.

Don't be fooled by the name - ScienceDirect is an excellent source of information on business and management. And, as an added bonus, all articles are peer-reviewed!

Use the Advanced Search option (top right). Use the connector AND to connect your different concepts.
