  1. Find recent news media articles, preferably Australian, related to a particular organisational issue/workplace event/ problem.

Try an advanced search in Newsbank Newspapers:

  • Select Australian Newspapers from the home page.
  • Then select Advanced Search.

Lets try a search on gender discrimination in the workplace.

  • Start by adding each concept in a new search box. These are connected with AND.
  • Then add any synonyms or alternative concepts using the connector OR. This will make your search more comprehensive.
  • From the drop down menu select Lead/First Paragraph. This will help you avoid you getting irrelevant results.
  • Select Search.

  • Your results are filtered by date with most recent first (left menu), change this to Best Match.

  • Lastly change your date range to get more recent articles. For example choose the last 5 years:

Below is a search example in Australia and New Zealand Newsstand.

Let's try a search for toxic leaders.

  • Select the Advanced Search option (top of page).
  • Type each key concept in a new search box. These are connector with AND.
  • Select Anywhere except full text from the drop down menu.
  • Select Search.

  • Add any synonyms or alternative concepts to your search to be more comprehensive. Connect these using OR.
  • Select Search.

  • To find recent news media articles limit by Publication date (left menu). Try the last five years.
  • You may also want to limit by Source type. Try newspapers.
