Accepted Manuscripts
Q.: What is an accepted manuscript?
A.: An accepted manuscript is the final manuscript version of the work. It includes any corrections made as a result of peer review but no copy editing or formatting contributed by the publisher. It may also be referred to as the Author Accepted Manuscript or the Accepted Article.
Q.: What do accepted manuscripts look like?
A.: Accepted manuscripts may look different according to what the publisher will allow. See an example of an accepted manuscript here:
Q.: Why are accepted manuscript needed?
A.: Most publishers do not allow the published versions to be made publicly available, however most do allow accepted manuscripts to be made available after an embargo period has been applied. Embargoes usually apply for 12 months, however some can last for up to 4 years, and a small number of journals and publishers may not allow any accepted manuscript to be made publicly available. The UniSA Open Access Policy requires accepted manuscripts be submitted to the Research Outputs Repository within one month of acceptance for publication. Any embargoes will be applied as necessary by the Library.
Q.: Should the publisher versions of journal articles be submitted?
A.: The Library will be able to find and load the published versions of journal articles. Published versions will continue to be loaded into the Research Outputs Repository so the Library has a permanent copy, plus it is a requirement for ERA reporting.
Q.: What if the first listed author is external/international and we can't get an accepted manuscript?
A;: We can only ask for the accepted manuscript. If no accepted manuscript is available, the published version will be the only version in the ROR, and this will probably have restricted access, ie available to UniSA staff and students only.
Q.: Should the publisher versions of all other outputs be submitted?
A. : Reports and conference papers should be submitted to the ROR. The Library will purchase any books that are written by UniSA authors. Whilst most books and book chapters will not be allowed to be made open access, reports, conference papers and non-traditional outputs may be allowed. The Library checks each output for copyright, if an output can be made publicly available it will be.
Q.: Do I still need to get alerts from Web of Science and Scopus to see new publications for my School/Institute?
A:. No, the Library receives weekly alerts from Web of Science and Scopus, and invites Researchers to claim or reject the output. Use the reports available in BI Hub to produce a list of research outputs.
Q;: Will I still be able to use the audit reports?
A.: The changes will be happening in the background, there should be no difference in the reports. Use the reports available in BI Hub.
