Evidence-Based Practice: Report search results

Capture your search

Record the following:

  1. Title of the database searched.
  2. Name of the database platform e.g. MEDLINE (OvidSP).
  3. Database date range.
  4. Date search conducted.
  5. Years covered by the search.
  6. Complete search strategy (include all search terms and limits).

There are several reporting guidelines available, including Consort, Moose, and Strobe.

PRISMA

Review authors are strongly encouraged to include a study flow diagram as recommended by the PRISMA statement (Liberati 2009)

Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) are reporting guidelines for systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

Often journals will ask your to report your systematic review results using PRISMA or another relevant reporting guideline.
