ORCiD for Research Degree Candidates

Why do I need an ORCiD?

In November 2018, UniSA's Research Degrees Committee endorsed:

  • the creation of an ORCiD be a formal requirement of the first year of the annual review of progress.
  • that a ORCiD be displayed on the title page of a thesis.

These changes came into effect for students commencing from 2019.

What is ORCiD?

ORCiD is used internationally by the research community. It provides you with a unique 16 digit number to use throughout your career, to ensure research outputs (publications) are correctly attributed to you and not other researchers who has the same name. ORCiD is increasingly required by funding bodies and publishers as a way to identify researchers submitting papers or applying for grants.

How to create and connect your ORCiD

Follow the instructions on the ORCiD @ UniSA tab to:

  • create an ORCiD for the first time, and
  • connect it with UniSA.

UniSA only collects ORCiDs registered with UniSA. You will need to create and register your ORCiD with UniSA in order for it to be recorded.

FAQs

Q. I already have an ORCiD, why do I need to register it with UniSA?

A. By registering your ORCiD with UniSA, it enables the automated transfer of your research outputs from the UniSA Research Outputs Repository to your ORCiD profile. This helps maximise your visibility and promote your research activities.

Q. How does my ORCiD appear on my research outputs (publications)?

A. Some publisher systems will display the ORCiD badge next to your name, which includes a direct link to your ORCiD profile.

Q. Can I get an ORCiD badge?

A. Unfortunately a badge cannot be done automatically. Your ORCiD number is an html link so copy and paste this as needed.
