Your textbook is a useful resource for learning about arts management boards and analysing case studies.

Your textbook is:

Rentschler, R 2015, Arts governance: people, passion, performance, Routledge, Abingdon, England.

This is available as an eBook via the Library. To view online:

  1. Open the Library Collection record
  2. Click on either of the 'view online' links (ProQuest Ebook Central or EBSCOhost Ebooks)

3. Understand the assignment questions

  • Read the brief guide on Understanding assignments and instruction words, this will help you with interpreting each of the prescribed questions.
  • Get into the mindset for responding to a case study.
  • When you are clear on the questions, think about the argument that you want to make and the types of academic references you want to use to support that argument.

4. Plan your search

First, identify some keywords that are related to your question. E.g.

  • board, board meeting, board members, board of directors
  • policy, policies, procedures
  • diverse, diversify, diversity
  • risk, risk management, conflict of interest

Put together a search term using your keywords and remember to:

  • use double quotes for phrases. e.g. "arts management"
  • put in an * to find other forms of a word. e.g. divers*, which will search for diverse, diversify, and diversity
  • connect terms using AND, OR, NOT. e.g. board OR director

6. Referencing Support

Managing your references

What do you do with all those references you have found? You can use a bibliographic management software to store, organise, and cite your references.

There are many free systems available. The Library supports the bibliographic management tool EndNote. EndNote automates citing your references and allows you to create and organise a library of references. For more information and to download the software, check out the EndNote Guide:
